Download application form (pdf)

With the generous support of the Freeman Foundation, the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Education at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) offer scholarships to encourage and support students who wish to become certified Chinese language teachers in California secondary schools. Officially accepted students in the Single Subject Credential Program (in Mandarin Chinese) are eligible to apply. Non-CA residents and International students are eligible for the same award amount as CA resident students.

 1.  Students should submit their scholarship application along with their Single Subject Program application (which is submitted during the course EDSS 300F).

2. Applications will also be accepted at any subsequent time for students who are currently in good standing in the Single Subject Program.

3.  Students will receive one award distributed over 2-3 semesters. Proof of registration for each semester is required before an allocation can be made. If a student does not maintain good standing in the program, or withdraws from courses or the program after a semester begins, the student will be expected to return the scholarship allocation for that semester

4.   The scholarship amount for each semester is $1,500 for the Fall and Spring semesters and $1,000 for a summer session (up to 3 semesters/summer sessions, maximum of $4,500 in total). Upon verification of taking the Mandarin CSET, candidates will be reimbursed $100 toward the test fee. This is a one-time reimbursement.

5. The scholarship evaluation committee consists of the Single Subject Program University Coordinator, the Single Subject Program LOTE Coordinator, and the LOTE Program Mandarin Advisor.

6.   Scholarships are available starting Fall 2006.

7.   Scholarship awards are based on a first-come-first-served principle until the funding runs out.
