2. Courses Taught
Professor Schmidt's teaching activities are concentrated in U.S. racial and ethnic politics, public policy, and in political theory. Click here to see syllabi for all his courses.

3. Research Interests and Publications
Professor Schmidt's research and publications center on ethnic and racial politics in the United States and comparatively.  He is especially active in work on language policy conflict in the United States, on the incorporation of immigrants (both in the U.S., and comparatively), and on Latino politics in the United States. 4. Professional Activities
 Professor Schmidt is active in several scholarly organizations, including the American Political Science Association; the APSA's Organized Section on Race, Ethnicity and Politics; the Western Political Science Association; and the California Studies Association. Click here to see more.

5. Fulbright Research Chair in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

During the 2005-2006 academic year, Professor Schmidt was on leave to do research and writing. In the Fall 2005 semester, he held the Fulbright-Enders Research Chair at the Center for International Studies, Universitč de Montrčal, in Quebec, Canada. While there he conducted research on immigrant settlement policies in Canada, taught a graduate course on recent immigration and its effects on U.S. ethno-racial politics, and he gave several public lectures and conferences.
