CSULB Music Media Player

Welcome to "Brass at the Beach!"

"Brass At The Beach" is your pre-professional training ground for brass players. Our esteemed studio faculty hold some of the most coveted positions in the United States, and all have tremendous teaching experience to back them up. Competition is encouraged and expected in a rigorous yet friendly environment with a proven track record of success.

Performance opportunities are the key to our program. We have a full symphony orchestra performing major repertoire, two wind ensembles and a concert band, a brass ensemble and several brass quintets, and two jazz orchestras. Our symphony orchestra is top-notch with the leadership and programming of Johannes Müller-Stosch. Under the direction of John Carnahan, the Wind Symphony has performed at major conventions throughout the country and abroad. Trumpeter Jeff Jarvis has led our Concert Jazz Orchestra to a prestigious performance at the world-renowned Monterey Jazz Festival. Our Trumpet Ensemble commissioned and premiered a work at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Glassboro, New Jersey.

World famous artists Øystein Baadsvik, Dave Taylor, Sam Burtis, and Anthony Plog have visited for master classes and performances. Our studio teachers hold positions in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and have performed on hundreds of motion picture soundtracks. Why not study with performers with real-world experience in real-world music situations? Artists like Bill Reichenbach, James Miller, Loren Marsteller and Steve Trapani, trombones and euphonium; Christopher Still, David Washburn, and Rob Frear, trumpets; James Atkinson, horn; and John Van Houten, tuba.

If you want to be a part of music in the real word, rub elbows with the ones who perform it, compose it and record it every day: come to "The Beach!"
