Renewal Requirements for the Library Media Teacher Services Credential


Clear Library Media Teacher Services Credentials issued prior to July 1, 1994, can be renewed every five years without additional study or course work. Renewal of Library Media Teacher Services Credentials issued July 1, 1994, and thereafter requires 150 hours of planned, cohesive activities. For persons who hold two or more credentials that must be renewed every five years, expiration dates will be adjusted in order to renew all credentials at once; 150 hours are required for the combined renewal. Activities for the 150 hours must be selected from at least two of seven categories: College or university courses; Conferences, workshops, institutes, academies, symposia, etc.; Systematics program of observation and analysis of teaching or person performing pper-alike jobs; Service in a leadership role in an educational institution; Service in a leadership role in a professional organization; Educational research and innovation; Miscellaneous [Professional exchange program; Alternative work experiene program; Program of independent study; Creative and scholarly endeavors; Cultural experiences; Instruction in CPR].

A Professional Growth Advisor can be selected from the district or a college to help in planning activities. Renewal applications and a Professional Growth Manual with instructions on meeting requirements are available in district offices or from the CSULB Credential Office (562-985-4109)..
