CSULB Library Media Teacher Services Credential Outreach Program


The library Media Teacher Services Credential Program at California State University, Long Beach offers two classes each semester and one during summer session. Nine classes (28 units) are required for the credential.

1. Seven library media classes will be completed at CSULB, or equivalent classes can be transferred to CSULB from another Credential or MLS program. Each class meets up to six Saturday, 8:30-5:00 pm; the remaining time, work is done online.

LI 520 Information Literacy and Reference Services
LI 530A Library Media Materials for Elementary Grades (K-5)
LI 530B Library Media Materials for Secondary Grades (6-12)
LI 540 Organization of Information
LI 550 School Library Media Center Management
LI 570 Library Media Technologies

2. A curriculum design and development class (EDP 677 or EDCI 625) isrequired, or equivalent classes can be transferred to CSULB from another university.

3. The final class, LI 580-Field Experience (4 units) can be scheduled in schools near the student’s home.

4.  Starting fall 2001 library media teacher program courses have been offered in the San Fernando Valley as well as Long Beach.  Students may earn their credential at either site to a large extent.
