Library Media Teacher Services Credential Program Mission Statement

The Library Media Teacher Services Credential Program at CSULB is designed to prepare fully-qualified, outstanding Library Media Teachers for K-12 schools in California.

The program is based on the NCATE standards for School Library Media Specialist Education Preparation programs, in alignment with the principles and philosophy stated in Information Power, the guidelines published by the American Association of School Librarians: "The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information." We emphasize the triple role of the Library Media Teacher as Teacher, Information Specialist, and Instructional Consultant.

The program is strongly committed to the principles of equal opportunity for California's diverse student population. Assignments, readings, and course objectives emphasize the importance of multicultural and multilingual programs and materials.
