We are fortunate this semester to have the assistance of a Graduate Assistant, Mark Wojciechowski, thanks to a special grant from the Office of Academic Affairs, CSULB. Mark is responsible for overseeing the class Conference-on-the-Web. He will provide initial training for you on COW at our class on February 3 and will be available all semester to assist you with any difficulties you might have with COW. You can contact him by e-mail at mzw67@sprintmail.com. He will hold office hours on Mondays before class from 2:00-3:45 p.m. in McIntosh Humanities Building 906. During office hours, he will have access to a networked PC in the office so he can work with you on problems with COW or other on-line assignments. You can also schedule a private tutoring session with Mark at your mutual convenience to work on Internet training in the campus labs or at the MHB offices. You can also leave a telephone message for Mark at (562) 985-5545 or (562) 985-4331. Due to financial restrictions at the University, we are unable to return long-distance or toll calls. Mark is reviewing the on-line "help" material for COW and will develop supplementary instructions, as needed. Please let him know what problems you encounter in using COW and its current on-line "help" material. He will also review the continuing discussions on COW, sometimes posing new questions for you to consider and sometimes following up on your questions, either individually or for the group. Mark also will keep track of your participation all semester, so that the appropriate points can be assigned for your grade (see below).
On-Line Discussion Group Participation (12 points): Throughout the course, from February 24 - May 12, you should actively participate in the on-line discussion group, "Conferencing on the Web" (COW). You will receive training on this activity during the first month of the course. At least once a week, you should contribute your ideas to one of the on-going discussions. You can post a response to questions posed by others and/or frame your own questions about the course materials and class discussions. If technical difficulties make it impossible for you to post a message on the COW, you may substitute a message on the class e-mail list to the entire class, to receive credit for this part of the course. GRADING: High pass (outstanding participation all semester): 12 points Pass (acceptable participation all semester): 6 points Low Pass (some participation, some of the semester): 3 points Fail: 0 points
In addition to completing all undergraduate requirements for the course, graduate students will be required to do the following: Class On-Line discussions: You will be required to post discussion questions on one of the assigned class readings in Units II or III. GRADING: up to 12 points
