Course Overview:
Exploration of theory and practice of digital imaging and advanced techniques in visual art. Emphasis on individual projects, critical theory, installation, Internet publishing, and multimedia. Students will develop a deeper understanding of digital imaging and its relationship to photography and culture, the practice of digital imaging and its connection to the evolution of contemporary photographic activity. Concentration on the development of a unique conceptual and visual style. Book Project (iPhoto) and a body of work will be created.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Biweekly critique of student work, software demos and regular computer lab time for project work will be available (Tuesday).
Lecture (Thursday) and weekly discussion of critical reading. Brief reaction papers due after readings.
Grading Criteria:
This is a lecture/laboratory course. Full participation and regular
attendance is required to understand the presentations and properly execute them. Creative application of the process over the purely technical outcome will be stressed.
Images should be visually engaging, thoughtful, and have the ability to communicate your unique concept to others (in this case, your fellow class mates). Clear concepts, a primary identifiable idea and secondary ideas rendered and placed appropriately to signify their importance or level of meaning in your schema usually results in above average grade.
¥ Late submissions result in one full letter grade deduction
¥ Assignments may be redone within 4 weeks of due date
¥ Three unexcused absences equals a full letter grade deduction for the course
¥ Five absences equals a fail for the course
¥ Three unexcused tardies equal's one absence
