"We must learn to live together as brothers [and sisters] or perish together as fools."
- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Long Beach Area Peace Network (LBAPN, pronounced "l'boppin") is organizing for peace and civil liberties in the community. We have maintained a peace vigil continuously since September 2002.

We are heir to a long tradition of peace and justice activism in the Long Beach area. We re-organized in the Spring of 1999, in the wake of Clinton's bombing of Afghanistan and the Sudan, and in anticipation of the war in the Balkans. We are commited to creating awareness and showing commitment to peace at every level. We demand peace in our world, our streets, our schools, our homes, and our hearts. Violence is not the answer!

To this end, we have organized a number of peace walks and demonstrations in which we encourage walkers to express their own concerns with signs and literature. Inspired by the Seattle/WTO protests and deeply concerned about the attack on the WTC and Bush's rush to war with Iraq, we are continuing our efforts to bring peace, justice, ecological sanity, to our neighborhoods and the diverse communities of Long Beach.
