News

Associated Students Inc. President Jamie Pollock suffered a minor setback in her campaign for reelection Wednesday when she received notice her campaign posters, posted all over the CSULB campus, were destroyed and in some cases stolen, as pictured above.

  • Senate revisits Puvungna, plus-minus grading
Associated Students Senate passed two Puvungna-related resolutions Wednesday, one calling for the protection of the land, and the second calling for open, student-involved discussions on the fate of the land.

  • Expert suggests alternative remedies for depression
Depression affects more than 19 million Americans ages 18 and over each year, and college students are no exception.

  • Illegal downloading strangles small business
“Download Legal,” a Web site started by Brook Burgess, a law student at the University of Alabama, aims to educate the public and end the illegal act of stealing products off the Internet.

Opinion

  • Our View: Brainwashed sharks patrol high seas
A rather cruel scientist waits with controller in hand. Meanwhile, a swimmer enjoys the water, never knowing what dangers lurk in the deep. In a scene reminiscent of Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” a shark swims silently upwards like a watery bullet toward the swimmer.

  • Marriage is for life, think long and hard beforehand
It is a very bizarre feeling to watch your friends getting married. You look at them making this serious commitment and know you are not much younger. So how far off are you from locking yourself onto a ball and chain?

  • New horror movies not as horrific these days
I will be the first to admit I am a big ol’ scaredy cat. I am not completely opposed to the occasional scary movie, but there are certain ones I most definitely shy myself away from. Even though I am not a horror film fanatic, I recognize how much this genre of movies has changed and it has not been for the better.

  • Ice Hockey shows there’s more than meets the ice
This letter is in response to Kyle Cavaness’ column published in the Daily Forty-Niner on March 1 titled, “Hockey deserves more credit.”

Sports

  • Juice pumps up homerun record
It’s well documented that ever since Barry Bonds underwent arthroscopic knee surgery three times last season, he’s better at throwing curveballs than hitting them.
