Graduation
• Last year’s graduation ceremony included an unexpected shower of confetti being tossed on the graduates as they marched out to take their seats and eventually receive their diplomas from President Maxson.

This year’s ceremony will be held with the new Cal State Long Beach president, F. King Alexander, this week on campus.

    Women students at Cal State Long Beach may find it difficult to break the glass ceiling after college. A recent study of California Women Business Leaders, released late February, found the corporate environment of California in last place nationally in regard to women holding leadership positions.


  • New Generation Y’ers change outlook for CSULB graduates
    Students graduating from Cal State Long Beach this spring are members of Generation Y, a generation which is different from any generations that have come before it, according to a USA Today article titled “Generation Y: They’ve arrived at work with a new attitude."



  • Sociology professor describes work experience
    Patricia Gilbert, a sociology professor at Cal State Long Beach and a social worker at the Department of Mental Health in downtown Long Beach, shared her academic and work experience she went through to achieve a profession in social work.

    Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante attended the Cal State University Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, as an ex-officio trustee member.

    As graduates proudly stroll across the stage at graduation this week, many will receive minors with their degrees. Although the minor has become a common practice here at The Beach, not many students are sure what it is or how it will help them in the future.



  • Never say ‘eventually,’ eventually you will plain miss out
    Leaving college is very different from leaving high school. In high school, many people have a set course ahead: college. You are sad to leave friends, but know what awaits you in college will not even compare to what you experienced in high school in terms of education, friendship, love, hate and possibly all other emotions and experiences. You have had enough as a teenager and are anxious and ready to see what waits around the corner.

  • Sports management plays well at CSULB
    After receiving her teaching credential and becoming a math teacher at Marshall Middle School in Long Beach, it didn’t take long for Stacy Embretson, 33, to realize she couldn’t spend the rest of her life teaching fractions and probability to young teenagers.


  • LBSU athletics bring prestige to The Beach
    Long Beach State Athletics has always been recognized as a successful and highly competitive institution. It has had some success in the past and certainly has the potential to do more in the future, but as for now, individuals are the ones getting it done.


  • LBSU loses last game of the season
    The Long Beach State softball team had its season end Saturday, first losing to tournament host UCLA, 5-0, and then losing an elimination game to San Diego State 3-1. Long Beach beat the Aztecs 1-0 on Friday.
