Opinion

  • Our View: Earth Day needs prolonged recognition
While arriving back to school after a week of leisurely relaxation and reflection, few of us are anticipating any more celebrations.

  • Partisan politics pummel America, Americans
Partisan politics is killing America. We are a nation of Democrats and Republicans and, by God, you had better be a member of one of those two parties if you wish to affect any real change in America. This two-party system has so polarized the country I fear we may never recover.

  • Union rally’s small turnout disappointing to writer
On March 30 there was a call to union members to rally while the bargaining was taking place on campus here at Cal State Long Beach. I was extremely disappointed at the turnout.

Diversions

  • ‘Trans Generation’ series lacks action, substance
While many films can get rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, the documentary series “Transgeneration” is mediocre at best. An eight-part series shown on the Sundance Channel made available on DVD March 28 doesn’t really do much coverage of hard-hitting issues.

  • Fall Out Boy took over Los Angeles for arena tour
Fall Out Boy headlined the Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour with the All American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights and From First to Last on April 4 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Sports

  • 49er volleyball advances to first round playoffs
A strong finish in the regular season has guaranteed the men’s volleyball team a spot in the first round MPSF playoffs against BYU Saturday night.

  • Coach leaves legacy
Southern California sports fans are more exuberant than children watching a new episode of SpongeBob Square-Pants since the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers have qualified for the NBA playoffs and the Los Angeles Kings have qualified for the NHL playoffs.
