Women’s golf claims eighth in tourney

With an overall dynamic finish, the Long Beach State women’s golf team came in eighth place in the 17-team field at the Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course in Honolulu last Tuesday and Wednesday.
 
The 49ers shot a combined 913 total for all three rounds, including a 300 in Wednesday’s final round. The University of California won the team title with an 870, while UCLA came in second at 888.
 
The Beach’s top performer was freshman Hayley Wilkinson who shot a 223—76-77-70, tying for 16th place overall in the tournament and was named Big West Female Golf Athlete of the Week.
 
Freshman Melissa Keller and senior assistant team captain Teal Thron both shot a 232 to tie for 40th place, while Marie Louise Juul tied for 48th with a score of 234.
 
In addition, senior team captain Carla Legaspi tied for 51st at 235 —76-77-82.
 
Stanford’s Kim Rowton won the individual title with a 215—72-72-71.
