Cross country runs well at Big West Championships

By Jack Schneider
On-line Forty-Niner

The 49ers darted their way to the finish line and the Long Beach State men’s cross country team finished seventh, while the women’s squad claimed eighth at the Big West Conference Championships at UC Riverside on Saturday.

Jennifer Yadon became only the third 49er to place fourth or higher at the conference championships.

Yadon led the Beach with a personal-best 18:10.6, finishing fourth overall in the 5K race and earning all-conference honors.

Yadon, who shaved two minutes off last year’s 5K time, ran the fastest time by any 49er on UCR’s course.

Another highlight on the women’s side included junior Diane Mendoza finishing 33rd with a time of 19:14.4.

For the men’s team, junior Brian Stehmeier came in 19th overall with a time of 25:51.5. Sophomore Terrance Wroblewski crossed the line immediately after Stehmeier, taking 22nd place.
