Prop. 49 good for children

I wanted to express my views on the article by Jill Thomsen published on Oct. 29 about the debate over Proposition 49.

I believe that it is very important that this proposition passes.

Although it may increase the cost of college, in the long run it will have many positive effects. By opening up more after-school programs in low-income neighborhoods, children will achieve higher test scores, become more active and stay out of trouble.

The article mentions that Proposition 49 will provide places to study for schoolwork. Some children do not see a need to get work done, but if there were people to help out, the children will become better educated. This will boost their skills throughout the rest of their school career and help them prepare for the rest of their lives.

It is also stated that there will be many activities to keep children active. This is a great way to bring up the confidence levels of children.

The children will have a nice place to let out energy in a pro active way staying away from the television.

I also believe that this type of program would keep the children off the streets. It is said that most of these programs will favor the lower income neighborhoods. Children in these neighborhoods could possibly have a higher sense of self-pride and find that there are more positive things to do then get into trouble.

This proposition brings about too many positive aspects to be dwelling on the bad side. Although university costs may rise, the proposition would have a positive affect for years to come. Children will have a place to go to not only learn and be active, but also to be safe. This proposition could make the children’s futures so much brighter.
