The
Nugget patio overflowed with Beach Pride
Thursday as Cal State Long Beach students
gathered for a pep rally to support the
women’s volleyball team.
Pep
leaders clad in bright yellow CSULB T-shirts
crowded the area and kept the momentum of
the rally roaring.
Even
CSULB President Robert Maxson joined the
crowd to endorse Beach Pride and support
the volleyball team.
The
crowd was comprised of a constant flowing
number of students who stopped for a moment
or stayed and joined the rally while they
ate lunch or visited with friends.
The
rally, mainly organized to support the women’s
volleyball team, was also designed to invoke
a greater sense of school spirit in the
students.
“I
think it is cool,” Chase Landers a third-year
political science major said. “I didn’t
know we even had cheerleaders.”
Another
student, Eric Aluise said he hoped they
would schedule spirit rallies more often.
“It
was fun,” Aluise said. “It’s a good excuse
to take a break and sit down and have a
drink.”
The
rally also gave students the opportunity
to show their school spirit and enjoy the
promotions that the rally had to offer.
CSULB
shirts and other items were given away at
a free raffle. Students received free soft
drinks as well.
Attendees
sat and ate lunch while the cheerleading
squad maintained the enthusiasm with cheers
of “Long Beach State” and the occasional
acrobatic display.
The
highlight of the rally was the presence
of the CSULB women’s volleyball team. The
team thanked the crowd for its support and
invited all those present to attend their
next match at The Pyramid.
