The
lack of a budget deficit was most impressive
during the 3rd annual Associated Students
Inc. Convocation and State of the Corporation
meeting Wednesday afternoon.
“We
are in the black,” said Richard Haller,
executive director of A.S.I. “A.S.I. has
a surplus of $2,658 dollars.”
Haller
also mentioned other departments with a
budget surplus. The business office, human
resources office, Government Operations,
KBeach radio, Program Council and Event
Planning all had reserve capital.
“We
have implemented most of the changes recommended
by a [California State University system]
audit,” Haller said. “We’ve renovated the
Soroptomist House and the Child Development
Center playground to meet safety standards
and we’ve adapted the A.S.I. to a year-round
schedule.”
The
convocation helps A.S.I. determine where
the organization stands and what the corporation
plans to do in the future, Haller said.
Haller
then focused the rest of his presentation
on the future of A.S.I. and the other offices.
He introduced the six proposed initiatives
for the 2002-2003 term.
The
first initiative was to determine the academic
effect of A.S.I. involvement on student
volunteers and employees.
“We
need to know if A.S.I. involvement affects
a student’s academics, be it detrimental
or positive,” Haller said.
The
student recreation center proposal was also
a priority placed on the list of initiatives.
