Imax
rockets ‘Apollo 13’ to new heights

Imagine
blasting into outer space, 200,000 miles
above earth at the speed of light. The IMAX
Theater at Universal City Walk has transformed
the academy award winning box office hit
“Apollo 13,” into an extraordinary space
shuttle flight.
On Sept. 20, this remarkable journey will
open to the public. This outstanding film
allows the audience to feel as though they
are in the movie. You are constantly overwhelmed
by the sensation of gliding through space,
and as Buzz Light-Year would say, “ to infinity
and beyond.” IMAX DMR (Digital
re-mastering) is a proprietary, patent pending
technology that digitally enhances the gigantic
IMAX screen. The screen is 8 stories high,
as wide as an NFL football field and is
3 times the size of normal 33mm standard
screen.
Imax has created the most powerful projectors
ever built. The projectors move in a “rolling
loop” film movement, which is a wave-like
motion with 15,000 watt lamps. The light
is so forceful and bright that it could
be seen from the moon with the naked eye.
The amazing, visual enhancement comprised
of 44 custom designed speakers and 12,000
watts of echoing sound will blow your mind
away. Every seat in the theater is
designed to give every audience member superb
sound. Each seat is also calculated to cover
peripheral vision as well. The darkened
theater and escalating rows allow the audience
to feel as if they are in the actual movie.
The experience of watching “Apollo 13” in
an IMAX theater takes you to a whole new
realm in film. I recommend everyone to see
this film even if you have already seen
it. The characters, props and visual effects
are right in your face. The feeling of being
sucked into the movie is remarkable.
