Snow retires

Long Beach State
baseball Head Coach Dave Snow stepped down Friday after 17
years of coaching at the Division 1 level.
"It is my
intent to spend more time with my family and private business
interests, that I announce my retirement," Snow said
in a statement. "As a part owner of the All-American
Baseball Academy and its new 20,000 square foot training center
and public batting cages, I am excited about directing my
energy towards its growth and success."
Snow recorded an
astounding 671 victories in his career. During his 13 years
at LBSU (1989-2001), Snow led the Dirtbags to four College
World Series'. Named NCAA Coach of the Year and never finishing
lower than fourth place in his 17 seasons, Snow said that
Long Beach was a great place to go to work each day.
"I want to
say thanks to all the coaches and players I have been had
the good fortune to work with at Long Beach State," Snow
said.
Snow helped send
nearly 105 players to the professional ranks, including standout
players like Jason Giambi, Chris Gomez and Steve Trachsel.
"It will be
very difficult to follow Dave Snow," said Assistant Coach
Mike Weathers, who will be taking over as head coach Aug.
1. "From what he has accomplished here, he is a legend
among baseball circles."
Snow also developed
the "Dirtbag" image as a team built on grit, dirt
and small ball, which succeeded as a way to beat higher-profile
teams.
