Stop being whores
Happy Halloween. Remember
when the holiday was about orange plastic pumpkins filled to
the brim with candy, and costumes that consisted of a cardboard
box spray-painted silver so you could be a robot, or a sheet
with two eyeholes for a ghastly fright?
Now little girls
wear Britney Spears costumes, complete with exposed navels
and pre-pubescent cleavage. Costume stores are stocked with
platform shoes and tube tops for children. Girls are being
taught at a young age that showing a lot of skin is acceptable.
We further carry this idea into teenage and adulthood. Truth
be told, women in this day and age enjoy dressing as prostitutes
for Halloween.
We realize that
not all women contribute to this disservice to an entire gender,
but take a look around at a party tonight. Maybe they aren't
the traditional hookers. But there will be a good majority
of women who are hooker cops, hooker nurses, or dominatrixes,
depending on which outfit consists of the material that covers
the bare minimum. Isn't Halloween supposed to be about creativity
and aspiring to be something that you can't be every day?
As children, we
wanted to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Superman, maybe
even Wonder Woman. It is very disturbing to us that women
would want to dress as a person who sells their body to strangers
for sex. It is degrading to women as a whole. We wonder if
women who do dress this way for Halloween feel good about
themselves.
Men get to dress
as SWAT team members or cowboys, a socially-acceptable costume
that they would want to be. So then there's the other side
of the coin. Are men dressing like pimps degrading to their
gender?
Men don't use Halloween
as an opportunity to let their penises hang out. So why do
women seek negative attention by putting their bodies on display?
We are not chastising
those women who choose to be hoes for Halloween. But just
think twice before snapping on those garter belts. Trick?
Or treat. You be the judge.
